The Light Within
By S. Nathan Stein

 Wednesday, February 14, 2007

This winter we have gotten a fair amount of sub-zero weather in our little country corner of New England. Combined with the shorter days with minimal sunlight, and the occasional noreaster blizzard like the one we experienced here today, it got me thinking about how easy it can be for people to feel disconected or isolated. In today's editorial, I would like to offer a perspective that is summed up in the Sanskrit greeting, Namaste!  While I have heard various interpretations of this, I'd like to offer the following one that I feel is very useful.

Namste is more than just a greeting, it is a reminder that there is something in common we all have, a shared goodness. This Goodness or Godness, if you will, that connects everyone and everything.  The mineral shown above, on which the Namaste, greeting appears is Labradorite, a mineral which represent s our True Essential Self or Higher Self.  The Higher Self which has all the pure energies or attributes of Divinity in perfect balance, is like a rainbow which contains all the pure colors in perfect balance.  Labradorite is a beautiful mineral that reflects light throughout all its interior surfaces to produce a beautiful rainbow of colors, all of which are connected in a continum.  Labradorite is a mineral which teaches us to look for the light or shared goodness deep within ourselves and to observe the beauty as light is reflected through every part of our being and our life expereiences.  When we recognize that beauty within ourselves- qualities such as  self-love, self-peace, self-truthfulness, self-compassion and patience, etc. , we will recognize it more and more in others as well.  Do you notice this beauty in others because you are merely paying more attention, or do you, by focusing more of your attention on this beauty, use the law of attraction to bring more of it into your expereience?  The term, Namaste infers that there exists a state of ONENESS or ONE Being.  If this is truly so, then whenever one person experiences these qualities of beauty within ourselves, we automatically make it available to "everyone else". Why is this - because in truth there is just ONE Being with an infinite number of parts! A really good example of this can be seen in the example of the great mile runner, Roger Bannister. Until Roger Banister broke the four minute mile, there was no other person who did this mentioned in all of the recorded prior track and field events.  Amazingly, after Roger Bannister accomplished this, people immediately began to break the four minute mile record with regularity.  Was this common place breaking of this previously invincible barrier, coincidence or the connectedness suggested by the Namaste greeting?

The jury may not be in on the above question, but there is one thing I'd like to mention.  The great American psychic Edgar Cayce one said that Spirit is the life, mind is the builder and the physical is the result.  He said in essence, that if you have a spiritual ideal for example and adopt mental attitudes that support it, then your physical experience is the result!  It is here that we come back to where we started this editorial.  Each of us has a choice to adopt, honor and acknowledge  spiritual ideals and supporting mental attitudes within ourselves, which will encourage more and more others to be in that place as well.  When this happens, we experience the truth about our state of being, and we are ONE!  Namaste, Nathan.

Arrival At Black Mountain, NC - The Journey Begins
By S. Nathan Stein

 Sunday, October 21, 2007

After more than two years of trying to sell our home and business space, we finally accomplished our goal.  We left behind much experience, friends, clients, and the beautiful lakes and mountain regions of NH. After, several trips to find a suitable relocation spot we have arrived in the amazing town of Black Mountain, NC, located near the City of Asheville and nestled in between the Great Smoky Mountains and The Blue Ridge Mountains. Asheville has been called the New Sedona Arizona and is truly a mecca of cultural and new age activities.  There is an energy of vitality & openness experienced here in many ways. Arguably, the town of Black Mountain typifies this spirit most strongly in the area.

While our household belongings on the moving company van have still not caught up us yet, Joy and I are already beginning to set up our household and networking in preparation to re-start our business here.  When we moved from NH, the fall foliage was at its peak, and because of the milder climate in NC we have been treated with a repeat of the spectacular colors especially in the higher elevations.  I have been enjoying the somewhat warmer weather here as well as the remarkable shopping & dining opportunities we have found. Black Mountain itself, has numerous streets filled with quaint, unique shops and with amazing mountain views surrounding the town.  I have found the people here by and large very friendly and polite and I look forward to many new friendships, acquaintences and clients.

On one series of NC license plates you can find the phrase "sharing the journey".  For Joy, Wolfstone & I, the process of sharing the journey here in Black Mountain begins. Many writers, such as Page Bryant have written of the Spiritual reawakening that is happening all along these ancient mountains that are part of the Appalachian chain. Perhaps Joy & I have felt moved to come here to support that awakening in all ways that we are guided and inspired.  As we continue down our path, we will take many notes, and in the editiorials to  come we will continue to "share the journey".  Namaste, Nathan.
