On these pages you will find information about, and pictures of, the captivating and magical place that has been home to Joy and Nathan for almost four years. It has been a source of blessing and comfort throughout this time, but now our work is calling us to move on.
This beautiful and spacious 11 room country antique home, with many charming features, sits on a corner lot with 5+ acres of land. The setting includes a beautiful, private back yard with established flower garden areas and a sparkling, crystal clear year-round brook running through the southern portion of it. This setting includes a peaceful pond area with miniature dock and bridge (brook needs re-damming) and beautiful stands of towering old white pines and hardwoods, threaded with hiking trails.
This home is a double cape that was built in 1800. The original part of the building was constructed on site, and is known historically as the “Granville House,” and the second part of the home was built nearby and moved to the site to join the original building. This makes for a large and rambling home which is ideally suited for an in-home business or a large or extended family.
The house is a classic post-and-beam construction, with the beautiful, hand-hewn ceiling beams exposed in many of the rooms. Other original features include many windows with the original antique glass, original iron hardware on the many antique doors, original wide-pine flooring in many rooms, a working brick fireplace, a “candle cupboard” in the living room and 2” thick wide pine paneling in the large eat-in country kitchen.
Extensive renovations, completed by Joy and Nathan in 2003-4, have added much to the convenience, comfort, utility and value of this unique home. Among those renovations is a large finished loft room over the barn, WolfStone’s “Gathering Room,” that added more than 400 sq. feet. The Loft has beautiful pine wood flooring, and a cathedral ceiling with a skylight and Maine pine beams and a pair of remote-controlled overhead fans with stained “Mission Glass” style lights and matching stained glass wall sconces.
More features and renovations will be detailed in the following pages.
For those who love lakes and mountains, or generally enjoy nature, you may be interested to know that this gracious home is located in the Lakes Region of NH, and is close to Duncan Lake, Provence Lake, Ossipee Lake, and Lake Winnipesauke to name but a few. It is also near the Pine River and numerous ponds and streams, is located in one of the few remaining pine barrens in NH, and near the Green Mountains and White Mountains.
It is conveniently located about 3 miles from Route 16, which is eastern NH’s major north/south route, going from the seacoast to the mountains, and to numerous resorts and recreational activities. It is near a number of both winter and summer recreation areas and about 40 minutes from major tourist attractions in the Mount Washington Valley Region. This area also features a wide selection of factory outlets and other major shopping for those who like to go bargain hunting.
And if you enjoy spectacular autumn foliage, then you probably are aware that New Hampshire has some of the best around, and our home is conveniently located in what we affectionately call 'leaf peeper country'. For those of you who enjoy horse back riding, you might be surprised to know that the town actually has a 'Dude Ranch'. Effingham is located on the NH/Maine border, and is about a one to one and a half hour drive from Portland, ME, and the Maine and NH seacoasts.
Other Benefits
The state of NH, where the home is located, is INCOME TAX Free, and NH has been consistently rated in major polls over the last 7 years as having one of the highest quality-of-living standards in the nation. In the last 2 years it was ranked as #1.
Shown Below are some full-size views of the outside of the house and the yard. On the next page we show some full-size views of the inside of the house, and give more details about the features both inside and out.
